Leave a Legacy of Opportunity
Help them take their next steps
“With education anything is possible!” — Sonam
For many years, friends of Altitude Project have helped children in some of Nepal’s most remote Himalayan villages take their first steps toward an education.
Today, those children are graduating from high school, earning scholarships and heading to university and trade schools.
Look what we have made possible together. And this is only the beginning.
From Village School to University
In 2026, our first three Grade 12 graduates reached an extraordinary milestone: Sonam, Tenzin and Nyima were all accepted into university—and all three earned significant four-year scholarships.
Sonam and Tenzin received full four-year scholarships through Project Awasar. In addition to tuition, their awards include mentorship and leadership development.
Nyima earned a 40% four-year scholarship and will pursue a BSc in Computer Science and Information Technology.
Three young people from remote villages in Upper Dolpo. Three university acceptances. Three scholarships.
This is what opportunity can become.
“On the way to Kathmandu my cousin asked me, ‘Do you know what our life will be, do we know what we will be?’ I got excited because we had never thought of such things! With education anything is possible!!”
—Sonam
Nyima, Sonam, and Tenzin
It is impossible to express how incredibly proud we are of them.
They earned these opportunities through their own academic achievement, perseverance, and potential. But behind them stands a remarkable circle of people—their families and teachers, the hostel community, and donors who believed that these young people deserved the opportunity to discover how far an education could take them.
And younger students are already following in their footsteps.
A Pathway to Possibility
Our educational pathway now reaches from a child’s first day in a remote village classroom to high school in Kathmandu and, increasingly, post-secondary education.
Today, 35 younger students are living and studying at our Kathmandu hostel. Sonam, Tenzin and Nyima have shown us where that pathway can lead.
Scholarships will sometimes open extraordinary doors. At other times, a temporary financial shortfall could put years of hard work at risk.
Our hope is simple: no capable, determined student should have to give up after coming so far.
A legacy gift can help ensure we are there when that next step arrives.
A Gift That Reaches Into the Future
Including Altitude Project in your will is a deeply meaningful way to ensure that opportunities continue for the children in Upper Dolpo.
A legacy gift does not need to be large to make a lasting difference. It can be a specific amount or a percentage of your estate, allowing you to provide for the people you love while also remembering a cause that has been meaningful during your lifetime.
For a small charity like Altitude Project, these gifts can be transformational.
A legacy gift could help educate children in remote village schools, support young people continuing their education in Kathmandu, or help a determined graduate overcome a financial barrier on the way to university or vocational training.
Most importantly, it can give a young person something invaluable: the opportunity to discover how far their dreams can take them.
Your Values Can Live On
Many people spend a lifetime quietly supporting causes they care about. A gift in your will is an opportunity to carry those values forward.
Perhaps you believe deeply in education.
Perhaps you want girls to have opportunities unavailable to their mothers and grandmothers.
Perhaps you believe that where a child is born should not determine how far that child can go.
Or perhaps, like us, you have simply fallen in love with the people of Dolpo.
Whatever your reason, a legacy gift is a beautiful way to say: I believe in their future.
A Conversation, Not a Commitment
If you are considering including Altitude Project in your will, we would be honoured to hear from you. There is no obligation, and you don’t need to tell us the amount of your intended gift. We would simply welcome the opportunity to answer your questions and, if you wish, thank you personally.
We encourage you to discuss any planned charitable gift with your lawyer or financial advisor to ensure your wishes are properly documented.
Help Them Take the Next Step
Twenty-five years ago, there were no schools in Upper Dolpo.
Today, children are learning to read and write. Young people are graduating from high school. And students like Sonam, Tenzin and Nyima are earning scholarships and heading to university.
None of this happened overnight. It happened one child, one teacher, one school—and one generous supporter—at a time.
Together, we have helped them come this far. Your legacy can help ensure there is always someone there to help the next child take the next step.
You may never meet the student your legacy helps. But your generosity can.

“Your kindness has made a huge impact on the lives of Himalayan children like us. We are first in family to have education. With your loving and helping hand we got the opportunity, not just for education, but also to dream of a future, which we can also have positive impact in the world inspired from you. We also can take responsibilities of helping other. Your kindness will forever be remembered in our hearts, and we pray for your healthy and happy life with your family. Your kindness means so much to everyone here. ”—Tsering
